Skincare Sunday: Current morning skincare routine #1

Hey lovelies!!

Another week, another Skincare Sunday!

My skincare routine varies, depending on what my skin is crying out for. At the minute, I’ve been trying to brighten my tired looking skin that has looked a bit dull due to lack of sleep.

image

I’m up each morning at 6.00am. I’m far from a morning person, so at that time, I don’t have the mental capacity for a complicated routine and just crave something quick and effective and concentrate a lot more on my evening routine.

In the shower, I clean my skin with the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel Cleanser. I like this as I like the feel of a wash on my face in the morning to waken me up. It helps purify the skin and eliminate impurities and excess sebum without overly drying my skin.

For the mornings when my skin looks particularly dull, I’ve been using my deluxe sample version of Ren Flash 1 minute Facial. I apply a thin layer of this over a clean face and activate the Vitamin C ingredient by massaging the product with damp finger tips. I leave it on for, you guessed it, one minute and rinse off. It helps my skin look firm, toned and radiant.

Post shower, I tone my face with Clarins camomile toning lotion for normal to dry skin. This helps ensure I’ve removed any product residue that I may have missed, whilst freshening my skin and prepping it for the next skincare steps.

Following the toner, it is ordinarily the serum step. I’ve been dealing with some breakouts around my forehead and nose, so I’ve been reaching for La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo. I apply a few blobs of this to my t-zone area, and I think it’s made a good difference in both clearing and preventing any breakouts in this area.

Next, I add a thin layer of Clarins Special Eye Contour balm to each eye which is incredibly moisturising.

The final step is to add a few blobs of Clarins Multi Active Day cream to moisturise. I’ve used this moisturiser on and off for a few years now and it’s become a real staple product in my skincare routine. I love the scent and my skin absorbs it really well.

Please let me know what products you love to use in your morning skincare routine!!

What’s in my make up bag? #1

Hello lovelies!!

I’m a naturally nosey person and love to see which products everybody has stashed in their make up bags. So on that note, this is what I’m currently using…

Face

image

For priming my skin, I’ve been using my Smashbox Photo Finish Colour Correcting Primer. I have the green version of this primer which minimises redness. I like how this sinks into the skin nicely for a silicone primer and doesn’t leave that oily feeling residue.

For my base I’ve been enjoying my MAC Mineralise Moisture Foundation. This foundation is a cream-gel formulation which is said to blur imperfections and create a radiant satin finish with sheer to medium coverage. Given the fact that my skin gets a little more dry in Winter, the vitamin E and shea butter ingredients have been proving beneficial.

For concealing my under eye area, I’ve switched to the Naked Skin Concealer that I got for Christmas. I really love this product, I blend it using my beauty blender and I’ve found the product is extremely creamy, which feels very moisturising, again good for my drier skin.

For setting my make up I’ve been using the Chanel Les Beiges healthy glow powder. This gives a really natural finish which I love. And everybody loves a bit of Chanel packaging in their make up bags right?

I’ve been feeling a little pasty as we’re in the midst of Winter, so to add a bit of colour to my skin and warm it up, I’ve been using the Hourglass Radiant Bronze Light which is my new favourite bronzer. This is so blendable and buttery smooth, a real dream product to use.

Cheeks

For blush I’ve switched to my Milani blush in Rose D’Oro. This peach toned blusher with a gold shimmer looks beautiful on the skin. I’m a huge fan of these budget blushes!

Even though the Milani blush has a gold shimmer running through it, for the times that I’ve really wanted to amp up the highlight, I’ve been reaching for my Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop.

Eyes

I’ve been using my Becca corrector under my concealer to try to hide the pesky dark circles from not sleeping enough.

For eyeliner I’ve stuck with my trusty Chanel Stylo Yeux long wearing waterproof eyeliner. I use the shade espresso and have been using this solidly for about 4 months, I love it so much. It’s soft with a fine enough tip to create a nice line and it lasts all day when I’m at work. It’s self sharpening too which I much prefer.

For brows, I’ve recently switched to the Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil. I’m still in the early stages of using this product, but I have been finding it pretty difficult to get to grips with. The triangular tip is much thicker than the ABH Brow Whiz I’ve been used to. I’ll persevere and make my final decision this week.

For eye shadow I’ve dug out the Marc Jacobs Lolita palette which has perfect day time shades with a good mixture of matte vs shimmer shades.

Mascara wise I’ve been using my little deluxe sample size of Benefit’s They’re Real which came in the Lashstash set from Sephora (amazing value FYI). I love this mascara. It catches all of my lashes and adds dramatic length.

Lips

image

My lips have been ridiculously dry this last month, so I have been on a quest to keep them super moisturised. With that in mind, I’ve been layering on the Bite beauty Agave lip mask most mornings. For the times I’ve wanted something lighter on my lips, I put on some EOS balm which smells amazing.

For colour I’ve used Milani liner paired with  used I’ve been reaching for MAC Peach Blossom. This is a cremesheen formula which is pretty moisturising and the colour is a lovely peach nude which is my version of a “my lips but better” shade.

What profucts do you all have in your bags?

Current beauty wish list

Hey lovelies!!

Another week, another wish list from me. This week I’m sharing what I currently have my eyes on from the beauty aisles.

Current beauty makeup and skincare wishlist

  1. Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation. I know that I’m probably the only person in the country who hasn’t tried this cult foundation. I’m looking for a good coverage foundation that lasts all day at work and I think this might fit the bill.
  2. Too Faced Peanut Butter and Jelly Eye Palette. This launches on 28th February and the swatches I have seen so far are beautiful. The palette has 9 shades, both matte and shimmer, and that peanut brittle shade? LOVE.
  3. Hourglass Ambient Strobing Powder. This is another new launch that I’m excited to try in the coming months. Any Hourglass powders that I’ve tried so far have been outstanding. I have high hopes.
  4. Tata Harper Purifying Cleanser. I need a new morning time cleanser and after reading Caroline Hirons post here, I have to have it. Caroline simply knows what she’s talking about.
  5. Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist. By the time this post goes live, I should be in possession of this gem thanks to the lovely Yavanna at Make Up Monster. The product unfortunately didn’t work out for her, but I’m happy to take it off her hands at a great discount and find out if I’m any luckier.
  6. Sunday Riley Good Genes Treatment. You’ve all seen me bang on about Sunday Riley Luna oil here. I’ve had a few samples of the Good Genes treatment and I’ve fallen equally in love with it. I have some loyalty points to use at SpaceNK before March, so I may put them towards this.

What do you all want to pick up beauty wise?

Skincare Sunday: Sephora Lotus Sleeping Mask

Hello lovelies!!

Apologies, it has been a bit quiet on the blog for the last week. I have been exhausted and left with very little time to think! But I’m back and I’ve got some nice posts coming in the next few weeks for you all.

With that, we’re back to Skincare Sunday and my skin has been struggling with the exhaustion, so I have been looking for products that really treat the skin whilst I’m getting some shut eye.

image

Enter the Sephora Lotus Sleeping Mask. I picked a few of these masks up to try whilst I was in the States last year at a bargain price of $6 each. Sephora describes the line, that consists of eight masks, as a “line of rich gel-cream textured sleeping masks, each with a refreshing skin benefit”. I picked up both the Lotus mask and the Rose mask, but have only tried the former thus far.

The lotus mask claims to be moisturising and soothing by locking in water with the benefits of reducing the signs of fatigue, giving plumper more rested skin. Sounded perfect to me, given the fact that I’ve been so exhausted and my skin was beginning to suffer for it.

The mask itself is a thick bright pink gel that you apply over a clean, dry face and neck. It is also mild enough to be used around the eye contours. You get enough product inside the little pod to last for approximately 4-5 uses.

image

I tried this mask for a few consecutive nights and I am disappointed to say that I’m not sold. The gel left a somewhat sticky feeling on my skin which I am not a fan of and I didn’t feel that it gave me the moisture injection that I had expected it to. I didn’t see a big difference in my skin with regards to plumpness etc. and I did notice some strange texture changes around my jawline after using it. Perhaps my skin just simply didn’t agree with this product, but I wouldn’t repurchase. I still have the Rose version of the mask in my cabinet, and I won’t write it off. I’ll give it a go and if I experience the same problems, I guess I’ll have to admit defeat on the line.

Have you tried these masks before? What did you think?

Luxury Lust List

Hello lovelies!

I do love a good wish list. In fact, I do love a good list full stop. I actually have a folder saved to my desktop simply called “lists” and I’m known to legitimately use the phrase “it didn’t make it on to my list” in work to my boss when I’ve forgotten to do something…

Today I’m sharing one of my favourite (if slightly unattainable) lists with you all.

Untitled

Absolutely top of my luxury wish list, every single time, is the Chanel classic flap. Every designer loving fiend wants one of these right? Sweet baby Jesus, if I could get my hands on one without having to forgo food, shelter and electric for the year, I’d totally do it. I’ve a money box at home for my “handbag fund”, all of your £2 coin donations are most welcome….

Sticking with Chanel, I also have my eyes on a pair of their simple ballet pumps. These are significantly more attainable (yes I know they’re still very expensive, but it’s a do-able splurge isn’t it?). They’re classic, timeless and go with anything. Everything that typifies the Chanel brand.

Also, I’m pretty desperate to treat my little tootsies to a pair of the Valentino Rockstuds. When I first saw these shoes, I was pretty nonplussed. However, they’ve been steady growers in my mind, and each time I see an Instagram of them, I fall a little deeper in love.

I splashed out on a beautiful Burberry trench last year (I highly recommend, they’re beautiful). Ever since I picked it up, I’ve been loving the idea of picking up on of the classic Burberry print scarves to go with. I mostly blame the Sales Assistant for this one as she kept dressing my trench in one, showing me all the different looks I could create, and in turn, she’s created a monster.

The final item on the lux wishlist is another classic in the form of this beautiful Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dress. Everybody knows the wrap dress is ridiculously flattering and I am in love with this version with the cute little collar and gorgeous print.

What is on your luxury lust lists?

Skincare Sunday: Combating Dry Eyes with Sisley and Clarins

Hello lovelies!!

This Winter has been playing havoc with my skin. My under eyes have gotten so much drier than usual and it’s been seriously bugging me!

About 4 months ago, my under eyes became so dry that they actually looked cracked. I stopped using every product I had been using, one by one, to determine if it was being caused by them. Nothing was changing, I bought several new eye creams, and searched the internet high and low for a solution.

IMG_3631

It was at this point that I came across the Sisley Eye Contour Mask. I read rave reviews online about this product, and I had to try it. We were shopping one afternoon in Belfast and I asked the Sales Assistant at the Sisley counter if I could try a sample. I took it home, slathered on a thick layer, waited 20 minutes and tissued off the excess. The effect was immediate. The flaky skin around my eyes had disappeared and the entire area looked plump and hydrated.

Sisley is, as most of you will know, an expensive brand. When I checked the price of this mask out, I was horrified to see it was £80+. The sample that the SA had given me lasted for approximately 5 uses but I still couldn’t justify paying that price myself, so I cheekily asked for another sample, which I was given without a hesitation. Thankfully I didn’t have to return a third time for a sample, as my lovely man picked this up as a Christmas surprise, brownie points to Diarmaid.

This mask is packed with botanical ingredients, including, horse chesnut extract, rose flower water, algae extract and vitamins B5 and E to name a few.

The mask applies like a very thick gel (similar to Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream) which I really like as it feels extremely nourishing on the soft skin under my eyes. Sisley recommend leaving the mask on for 10 minutes, to tissue off the excess and let the thin layer left behind continue to work.

I use this mask 2-3 times per week, at night, before bed to leave on overnight. The mask smooths, hydrates and reduces puffiness and will last for a very long time as you need the tiniest amount for each eye.

To compliment this mask, I picked up a tube of the Clarins Special Eye Contour Balm to replace my daily eye cream. This balm is actually a rich cream designed for very dry skin that promises to smooth fine lines while protect the delicate skin around the eye. Although it is a rich cream, it feels non oily and sinks into the skin really easily.

I use this balm twice a day, morning and night and it has really complimented the Sisley mask in repairing the dry skin around my eyes. Whilst I wouldn’t say that  the results are miraculous with this cream alone, it really is super moisturising and nourishing and the fact that it’s specifically designed for dry eye contours, makes it perfect for me. I’ve had the cream for approximately 4 months and I have only got through about half. I will definitely be repurchasing when this runs out.

What products do you love to use on your eye area?
