I think i’ve been pretty well behaved when it comes to spending recently. I have really reigned myself in and purposely shied away from the new product releases. That was until this beauty landed. When I seen it on social media ahead of the launch, I knew I wanted it. Then when I swatched a pre release version in store at Debenhams, I knew I needed it. With the new and improved, frugal Lynsey, I decided to take a step back and if I was still thinking about it a few days later, pick it up. Needless to say, it only took two more days before it was mine…
What’s the fuss I hear you ask? Well firstly, LOOK at it – it’s so ridiculously pretty. There have been several Naked palettes released over the years, but this one is my new favourite.
The palette comes housed in sturdy plastic packaging (better than the velvet original Naked palette *shudders*) with a really good mirror and a just okay brush. It comes in at £39.50 which for the brand and the quality seems reasonable enough to me.
Nothing about this palette is “Naked”. The palette contains 12 warm toned eyeshadows that are on the red/orange end of the colour spectrum. There are a mixture of finishes – 7 matte shades and 5 shimmers. The pigmentation is intense and the colours themselves are on the whole, quite bold. This palette is not for those who are just getting into warm toned shadows or who want a nice neutral look.
Let’s take a look at the shades:
Ounce – an ivory shimmer
Chaser – a light nude matte
Sauced – a soft terra-cotta matte
Low Blow – a brown matte
Lumbre – a copper shimmer with a gold pearl shift
He Devil – a burnt red matte
Dirty Talk – a metallic burnt red
Scorched – a metallic deep red with a gold micro shimmer
Cayenne – a deep terra-cotta matte
En Fuego – a burgandy matte
Ashes – a deep reddish-brown matte
Ember – a deep metallic copper-burgundy
The texture of the shadows varies from shade to shade. I find that the mattes are all extremely smooth and buttery while some of the shimmers (namely Lumbre and Dirty Talk) are a little bit more course. That being said, the shadows are all extremely bendable and the shimmers give off an amazing metallic shine.
The formulation is as you would expect from Urban Decay – impeccable. There are a few shadows with a little bit of fall out in the pan but I haven’t found that problem with them on my eyes.
The only non-bold shades are the two lightest – Ounce and Chaser. The rest are intensely pigmented. My favourite shades are Low Blow, Scorched and He Devil. The warm toned shadows of this palette really bring out the blue in my eyes too which I love.
I’ve created a couple of simple looks with the palette so far and the longevity really impressed me. I went to bed with my make up on after my birthday party (bad Lynsey!) and the shadow was still visible the next morning!
The only thing that I think this palette is really missing is a really deep dark brown which could be used for lining or for adding real definition. I wouldn’t have turned down a lighter shimmer for the inner corner either, but it’s not as missed for me.
In all, I really like this palette and am so excited to try out some more dramatic eye looks with it.
