Review: Too Faced x Erika Jayne Pretty Mess Collection*

I’m going to be honest, when I opened this press package I screamed. And then I nearly cried. Too Faced have long been one of my absolute favourite makeup brands and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, Erika Jayne, is one of my favourite people to watch on reality TV – she just keeps it real and she’s a total geg (Northern Ireland speak for hilarious). So when several products from the hotly anticipated collaboration made its way to me, I was absolutely chuffed.

This collection has been widely anticipated, two years in the making to be exact, so if you want to look like Erika, now’s your chance. As expected, the product names are risqué in line with former Too Faced launches and Erika’s personality. The packaging is also bright, fun and bold which fits in perfectly with the Too Faced brand as a whole – their packaging has always been one of my favourites.

The full collection features an eyeshadow palette, kissable body shimmer, highlighter, two lip kits and a tinted version of Too Faced’s iconic Lip Injection Lip Plumper. I was fortunate enough to have been sent the majority of the collection (seriously, somebody pinch me) and after a couple weeks playing with the products, I’m ready to give you the low down!

How Many F*cks Do I Give? High Impact Highlight

The first product that I couldn’t wait to use was the highlight. I’m a serious highlight junkie and any opportunity to up my glow game is always welcomed! Erika always has a beautiful highlight on her skin. In fact, her skin is to die for, so anything that will give me even a portion of her look has me hook, line and sinker.

The packaging is so cute with a raised golden dollar sign on the pan. The first thing that I noticed about this product is that the colour pay off is super impressive. Too Faced powders are usually second to none in terms of pigmentation so I wasn’t surprised to learn that a little of this powder goes a long way. One swipe produced a beautiful result giving the skin a wet look but still managing to look natural. What is this sorcery?!

I particularly like that you can essentially achieve three shades from one product with this highlight. You can use the golden dollar sign alone for an intense wet look gold colour (perfect for nights out), the more bronze area for a more natural day time appropriate look or use both mixed together. I’m so happy to have this product in my collection and will certainly be using itfrequently going forward.

Polite Lips and DSL Lip Kits

The collection features two different lip kits, one more wearable kit (Polite Lips) and a more bold version (DSL). Each kit comes with a mechanical lip liner and a high impact shine gloss which I thought was a nice change to the liquid lipstick that most kits contain.

I immediately fell in love with the Polite lips combination. The shade of this liner and gloss combo had my name all over it. The ‘Housewife Pink’ liner is the prettiest nude pink and the accompanying gloss in ‘Polite & Pretty’ is a lovely peach toned pearlescent gloss that will work with a tonne of other products I own.

The DSL version of the kit is a bit more bold which, if I’m honest, usually intimidates me. The liner is in the shade ‘Club Queen Fuchsia’ which is a bright fuchsia pink as the name would suggest and the accompanying gloss is in the shade ‘Dramatic Prismatic’ which is a more copper toned prismatic effect gloss. If I’m honest, the liner is a bit too OTT for me, but I feel like the gloss could work with other products of mine.

The staying power of both liners really impressed me given the fact that they were so creamy on application. It took a bit of work to remove them from the lips with make up remover after a few hours wear!

Pat the Puss Kissable Body Shimmer

Named after one of Erika’s signature dance moves (you can imagine how that dance goes), this kissable body shimmer had me intrigued from the get go. Body shimmers take me right back to my younger days, when I was obsessed with looking like a little sparkly ball of glitter, so I was on the fence as to whether this product would be any more than a gimmick.

The sugar cookie scent is absolutely gorgeous. I love how Too Faced infuse scent into their product for a fun edge and this product is no exception.

The powder is super finely milled and light and comes in a generous sized box with a fluffy powder puff for application (another think that nostalgically took me back). The shade of the powder is a rose-gold champagne, which works really well with a tan. Of course, it’s not going to make it into my every day routine, that would be extra AF, but it will definitely be a product that I reach for on nights out to give my legs and shoulders a gorgeous sheen.

So there we have it, my delve into the collection has on the whole been very positive which is unsurprising as Too Faced always knock it out of the park as far as I’m concerned. The highlight is the stand out product in my eyes and I’ve seen pictures of the eyeshadow palette online which looks beautiful too which might be worth picking up. At present I believe that the collection can be purchased online from Too Faced or exclusively in store in the Carnaby Street store. In all, I love how fun the entire collection is and how girly and bright the packaging is whilst the products are high quality and versatile. A huge thumbs up for me!

Is there anything in the collection that you would like to pick up? Tell me in the comments below!
