The shift to the Spring and Summer months means that my skin enjoys something a bit lighter in terms of moisturisers as opposed to the thicker creams that I tend to reach for during the winter months. For my normal skin, a gel or water based moisturiser is perfect for this time of the year.
The perfect formulation is lightweight, feels refreshing on the skin and hydrates without leaving the skin feeling greasy or oily. I like the fact that most gel moisturisers layer really well with other products and leave the skin feeling juicy and plumped.
If you have oily or combination skin, a gel or water based moisturiser will be a great option for you to keep your skin moisturised without overloading the skin. However, if you have normal or even somewhat dehydrated skin, some of these picks might be perfect for you too!
This is one of the more unique formulations that I’ve tried and is my current moisturiser of choice. It’s an ultra lightweight formula but deeply hydrates my skin. It’s specifically designed (as the name would suggest) to balance the skin’s ph levels after cleansing. Over time this moisturiser is said to stabilise the skin’s ph levels which in turn aids the fight against any shine.
There’s a raft of lovely ingredients too. Horse chestnut to tone, ginseng boosts circulation and revitalises the skin and aloe Vera soothes the skin.
My skin drinks this up quickly which makes it a great morning option for those in a rush too! Whilst I find this hydrating enough for my own skin, those with particularly dry skin might want to give this one a miss as it’s not the strongest contender in terms of hydration.
This is one that I’ve repurchased countless times over the years I enjoy it so much. It comes in two options, original for all skin types and intense for those with dry skin. I’ve tried and loved both but the gel texture of the original is perfect for this time of year.
Clinique claim that this moisturiser will work for 72 hours, even after washing the face. The results of this feel immediate to me. It too, sinks in like a dream and doesn’t leave any residue behind on the skin.
It’s got some heavy hitters in terms of the hydrating ingredients. Caffeine kick starts the skin’s own “water pump” whilst the humectant hyaluronic acid draws moisture to the skin and aloe water soothes and deeply hydrates. All skin types, including dry, will love this option.
Antipodes Baptise H2O Ultra Hydrating Gel*
If you watch my Instagram stories, you’ll know that I’m a big fan of Antipodes on the whole as a brand. They are such a beautiful, natural skincare brand and I have really liked almost all the products I’ve tried so far.
This gel is no different. The first time I tried it was pure love.
The texture is so smooth and soft. The gel is infused with hyaluronic acid and Manuka honey which makes it deeply hydrating. It’s super soothing on the skin and when I use it I really do feel like my skin is drenched in moisture. It also has a beautiful rose scent that I just love. For me, this is a great option to take on holiday or to use after a heavy day in the sun.
The Plant Base AC Clear Moisture Pure N Cream*
A few months back I was very kindly sent some products by Style Korean from Korean skincare brand, The Plant Base and I have really enjoyed each one, especially this moisturiser. As a side note, for those that don’t know about Style Korean, it’s a great site that stocks the most amazing K beauty brands at heavily discounted prices.
The formulation of this option is a typical gel cream moisturiser. Like the others, it sinks in like dream and doesn’t leave any tacky or sticky feeling behind. It’s one of the most weightless moisturisers that I’ve ever tried yet my skin feels deeply hydrated after use!
It contains more than 76% centella asiatica extract which is said to really strengthen the skin’s barrier and soothe any damage whilst improving the elasticity of the skin. Niacinamide is included to aid with any decongestion and to brighten the skin whilst the brand’s patented ‘Natural Protector’ helps control sebum production which makes this perfect for those with oily skin.
Elemis Cica Calm Hydration Juice
My final pick comes from Elemis and is a product that many use more as a serum than a moisturiser, but I find for my skin concerns, that it is just fine as a moisturiser.
It is a beautiful, fresh scented gel that’s infused with bio transformed cica that injects some real moisture into the skin. The formulation contains a hefty amount of aloe Vera and cucumber juice which produces one of the most cooling and refreshing feelings that I’ve ever felt from a product.
It is perfect for those that are very oily or for those with more sensitive skin. It layers so well under make up and leaves the skin feeling plumped, fresh and hydrated after use. Another excellent pick for those who may get away to spend some time in the sun!
